Hilda & the Northern Powerhouse
21st September 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
We are delighted to announce that the premier of the show ‘Hilda & the Northern Powerhouse’ will take place at Grimsby Minster at 6pm on Saturday 21st September 2019.
This new production will explore contemporary debates through the story of the Saxon Abbess St Hilda of Whitby (AD 614 to 680). Hilda was the founder of a double monastery of both monks and nuns at Whitby and hosted the first ‘referendum’ on Europe at the Synod of 664AD Saxon. Hilda’s story resonates with questions of power and influence in contemporary Britain, particularly in the light of Brexit. This theatre performance will be an immersive experience that presents an urgent, imaginative re-telling of this compelling piece of history, rooted in the land local to the Humber river.
The production stars Oyin Orija as Patience and other members of the cast include Sarah Naughton as Hilda and Alice Palmer as Lucy.
Director Amanda Huxtable is known locally as the Arts Council’s Changemaker at Hull Truck Theatre and has been key to shaping this production.
